Dawn of Change

Chapter 6 - Dawn of Change

I stood and helped Maribelle up, hugging her to me as we kissed. After a few moments, I led her upstairs to our suite. When the guards looked at me questioningly, I said, “Don’t mind us. I had to go get my wife and bring her back.” She smiled and waved as we passed them. Inside the suite, I could see the sky barely lightening as dawn approached.

I led her into my Room Cottage, then to our bedroom where the girls were still sleeping. My magical bag was lying on a small side table just inside the door. I picked it up and attached it to my waist as the girls began waking up.

Gojli squealed in excitement, “Maribelle! You’re back!” as she jumped up and ran over to hug her. Maribelle was quickly enveloped in a group hug by the rest of my wives.

Alenia broke off first to ask, “So how did you get her, when you were in the bed when we went to sleep?”

I grinned. “I had to take another quest, so I could save Maribelle. Why don’t we let her start the story?”

Unfortunately, some of them were caught and killed, causing a feeding frenzy that lasted a few hours.”

She shivered at the memory and took a big breath. “I must have dozed off because when I woke up we were surrounded by merfolk and magically silenced. The Lyre was taken from me and put into a bag before I was grabbed and quickly dragged to the city, surrounded by the group of heavily-armed soldiers. I vaguely recall being brought before the King on his throne, but the next thing I remember being trapped in a room. I couldn’t leave—I couldn’t even think about leaving. It was so strange because it felt like my mind would disconnect when I tried to do the simplest things, like think about all of you, or the door, or why I was even there. Like, I’d blank out and find myself walking around the room again. I know now that I was under a geas.”

She looked at me in surprise. “So, the legend of the King being a Wielder for HighCommand is true? I didn’t think it was possible to break its power, but if we did then that means it broke! That massive cracking sound and the building shaking! It was the HighCommand shattering!” She stared at
